Mary Shafkalis-Kyriacou

Mary Shafkalis-Kyriacou’s love of Greek dancing started at birth, where her family jokes that she came out dancing and started performing as a teenager with the Hellenic Society of the Performing Arts.  While attending Oakland University, she started a dance program at St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church where she served both as Program and Dance Director. Mary moved to Southern California and started to teach dance to children at St. Nicholas Church in Northridge, where she served as the Dance Program Director and has directed many award-winning groups. While in California, she began her experience with Folk Dance Festival (the west coast competition where more than 1500 dancers meet under one roof.)  She has been a dance judge at FDF for the past 5 years.

JUST GREEK DANCE

We're proud to announce Just Greek Dance presented by our St. John YAL by popular request. It is a free program for young adults ages 18-35 and it will not interfere with or replace any of our monthly meetings.

Just Greek Dance is just that – just Greek dance lessons. You don’t need to know anything to show up, as we’ll be learning the popular, traditional dances one step at a time. Literally. Each month we’ll focus on a new dance while also revisiting previous dances.

You never know when you'll need to break out the Greek Dance Moves! Whether it's to be ready for the next big dinner dance or just to impress Yiayia, be sure to join us!

Participation is FREE.
